What to do with this thing?

This is a "thing" I started awhile back. The yarn is 50% wool and 50% nylon, not the most comfortable thing to work with, not compare to the yummy wools that I'm used to any way. The pattern is simple feather and fan, with some garter stitch boarders. I've used about half the yarn, if I finish it all the "thing" will be about 3.5 to 4 feet square. Obviously I didn't have any plan when I started it! Now, I'm tired of this yarn, tired of the simple pattern. I don't think it'll become anything useful (baby afghan? square shawl? head scarf?). This is a lace weight yarn on size 4 needles, so there is a bit of time invested. Here are some options I can think of: 1. rip it and donate the yarn 2. throw it in a bag and stash it in the deepest corner in the closet. I might be happy to see it again 10 years from now 3. finish it -- it'd be hard to talk myself into this, plus I won't wear this color so I'll either over dye it or donate it to CIC 4. give it to someone else the way it is, and let them decide what to do Please tell me what you think.

Hey, don't be sad! What you've done looks nice, so I'd say don't frog now. I'd just finish with a border to match your starting edge (pic's small, was it garter st?) and then call it a baby afghan, a shoulder shawl folded in half, draped diag and belted, or perhaps just a nice looking tablecloth, sofa throw or laprobe. My point is twofold: improvise with what you've done already ('make it work') and move on to something else that's more fun (grin); alternatives will occur to you later with the remaining yarn, you'll see! I hope you continue to enjoy yr talented knitting! dolmakilroy

I vote for lap robe - it's just about the right size if it's a couple feet deep now, and you can donate it to a local nursing home or whatever. Who knows, they might have a knitter who could use the rest of your yarn, too! Then you have done two good deeds with it. If not, email me and I can give the address of a couple places that will take it.

I agree with everyone that has commented so far. It is beautiful work. Take what you have and make a baby afghan, changing pad, anything useful according to the size. Then donate the leftover yarn since you dislike the yarn.

I really like the workman ship of this piece, it is excellent....but would have to say that if you don't really like it and it's not a labor of love ( like making something for a loved one in colors or material you don't like, but you like the person you are knitting for....)...get rid of it or invest as little effort as possible, by maybe adding a nice finish and letting it be........there is nothing to be gained going on with an item when you hate knitting every stitch.......
I am sure you have things to knit you like more.....
Too bad I don't live in the US, I would make you an offer......Mustard and Curry colors are my favorite ones and thin yarn is perfcet.....too bad....

Your work looks GREAT!!
Basically, I agree with the others. Don't frog what you already have! Finish it off and either use for something such as a wrap, lapghan, baby blanket or such. I am totally dependant on donated yarn for my charity projects, and I am sure I'm not the only one. I"m guessing someone would very much appreciate the leftover yarn.
Good luck!

I think it is beautiful and would think it a shame to rip back such an amount of work. If it has reached its peak of inspiration for you, finish the border as others have suggested and donate it to a retirement home as a lap blanket. Many times, the blankets are TOO big for their chairs (or too heavy for their fragile bodies.) Anyway, kudos to you for reaching that point. Best wishes. Laura

Much of my thoughts have already been voiced, but I would finish it and donate it to a home for the elderly or to someone you know who spends their days in a wheelchair or homebound.

I agree with everybody! LOL DO NOT FROG THIS!!! Your work is too pretty to undo. Finish it off and donate it as a baby blanket or a shawl for a nursing home or a shelter. And then donate the yarn. I bet you have a LOT in your stash that you WANT to work with, no point in keeping something that you really dont like anymore. Donate it to a charity that can use it or to the same shelter/nursing home that you give the shawl (if that's what it ends up being) to.

I say take it with you on your next car ride... hold it up, so the driver next to you can see it, and see what they say.

Vivian, I just have to say I've been blogging for over a year and I have never received 10 comments on one post. You rock, girl! (Oh, and I vote lap robe.)

I would bind off the blanket, block it a little, wrap it in tissue, and put it in the closet where you keep your treasures. Some day you will know exactly what to do with it. the rest of the yarn you can donate, so that it does not evoke unpleasant memories of the time you got sick of it. BE good to yourself first, so that you can be good to others.
My Best to you, Rita
