Did a little swatching on the Muir stitch pattern. Very interesting open mesh background with the little "tree" standing out. The original pattern works side to side, only four or five repeats per row on lace weight. I'm going to change it to working bottom up with eight repeats on fingering weight. This way when the shawl is on the shoulders the "trees" will be pointing up instead of sideways.
Will I really be able to turn this big ball of yarn into a shawl? It'll keep me busy for awhile indeed.

That ball of yarn is HUGE! But that boy holding it is CUTER!!
Very pretty! I love the giant ball of yarn. :)
Very pretty!!!!! Hopefully I get mine swatch before the 15th.
What a handsome giant yarn ball holder you have. With assistance like that you'll get thru that ball in no time at all.
Is it just a trick of the camera, or is that ball larger than Henry's HEAD?
Yep, the ball is bigger than Henry's head. Close to 1700 yards or fingering weight yarn, took me two evenings to wind that ball. I love big round balls of yarn!
I was wondering how you snaped the picture where you are holding the knit piece (or rather pulling) it up against the wall. Are you holding the camera with your mouth?
I borrowed the husband's hands. He held the camera in front of my face until I told him to pull the trigger. The knitting piece was on the counter on top of white sheets, a trick I learned from another knitter.
Wow, cool!
